One of the most failed items on the 2007.5-2012 Ram Cummins is that of the HE351VE Turbo's Actuator. In short, the actuator is responsible for telling the turbo when to "open" and "close" for its variable geometry functionality. When the actuator fails, typically electronically, it can no longer give the proper commands to the turbo, losing VGT functionality.
The good news is that the actuators are very simple to replace. The bad news is you have to calibrate the actuator to the turbo, typically requiring a trip to the shop. But no longer! Synapse Auto has released their own replacement actuator and calibration tool that will allow you to do the whole job yourself. The process is extremely simple and you merely have to plug the tool into the electronics once mounted to the turbo and follow the on-screen prompts, then its done.
HOW THE PROCESS WORKS:
When you receive your kit, you will get both an actuator and a calibration tool. You'll install the actuator and calibrate using the tool. Once the installation is complete, you're going to package your old (core) actuator back in the box, along with the calibration tool and return everything back to Synapse Auto. Basically, you're returning a core and renting the tool, simple as that.
