Description

Today's Ram 2500/3500 trucks with the 6.7L Cummins Turbo Diesel are offered with multiple transmission and axle configurations, which means choosing the correct differential cover or transmission pan is critical for proper fitment, cooling, and performance. Upgrading these components not only improves durability, but also helps reduce heat which is one of the biggest enemies of both transmissions and differentials under heavy load.

For automatic transmissions, Ram HD trucks are equipped with different gearboxes depending on configuration and output level. Most standard-output pickup models use the 68RFE 6-speed automatic, while many cab-and-chassis trucks are equipped with the heavy-duty Aisin AS69RC transmission. High Output Cummins models also use an Aisin-based transmission with specific internal and external differences. Because each transmission uses a unique pan design, selecting the correct performance transmission pan for your Ram HD is essential for proper fluid capacity, cooling, and service access.

On the axle side, Ram continues to use American Axle Manufacturing (AAM) differentials in both the front and rear of its heavy-duty trucks. Most 2500 and 3500 models are equipped with a 9.25-inch front differential and an 11.8-inch rear differential, while certain Ram 3500 Max Tow Package trucks feature a massive 12-inch rear ring gear with larger axle tubes for extreme towing capacity. Each axle configuration requires a specific differential cover designed for that housing, making correct selection especially important.

Overall, if you would like any assistance determining which transmission or axles you have to best determine which pan or cover is right for you and your truck please don't hesitate to give us a call and we would be more than happy to help.
