The 3.0 Powerstroke is an impressive engine, delivering respectable power and fuel economy gains out of the box. That being said, anything can be improved upon, and that includes both power and MPG's by upgrading the stock airbox with an aftermarket cold air intake, or even a drop-in panel filter. The stock air intake was designed to quiet as much of the incoming air charge as possible, but in doing so, hinders the available airflow with these bottlenecks. Aftermarket systems will eliminate many of these baffles, allowing air to enter the turbo with minimal restriction, netting better efficiency.
