Factory Fluid Capacities & Recommended Weights

Engine Oil (7.3L Powerstroke)

  • Capacity: 15 quarts (with filter change)
  • Recommended Oil: 15W-40 diesel engine oil or 5W-40 for cold climates

Automatic Transmission (4R100)

  • Capacity: 17–18 quarts (dry fill)
  • Service Fill: varies depending on the drain method
  • Recommended Fluid: MERCON V ATF

Manual Transmission ( ZF S6-650)

  • Capacity: Slightly below 6 quarts
  • Recommended Fluid: MERCON V ATF

Transfer Case: NV271 (manual shift) or mNV273 (electric shift)

  • Capacity: ~2 quarts
  • Recommended Fluid: MERCON ATF

Front Differential: (Dana 50 or 60)

  • Capacity: 3 Quarts
  • Recommended Fluid: 75W-90 synthetic gear oil

Rear Differential (Sterling 10.5")

  • Capacity: 3.48 quarts
  • Recommended Fluid: 75W-140 synthetic gear oil
