Allison transmissions have been paired with Duramax-powered GM trucks since the platform first debuted in 2001, and they’ve evolved right alongside the engine over the years. With the 2020 model year, the updated L5P Duramax brought another performance jump, prompting the introduction of the Allison 10L1000. This 10-speed transmission was designed to balance strength and efficiency, offering improved power handling while optimizing fuel economy. Despite its compact size and relatively light weight, it packs impressive capability, making it one of the more advanced transmissions available in a heavy-duty pickup.
