Designed as an upgrade over the factory torque-to-yield head bolts, these high-strength head studs are built to handle the increased cylinder pressures associated with high-performance and modified Duramax engines. Factory head bolts can become a limiting factor as horsepower and torque increase. The XDP XD3017HS head stud kit provides increased clamping strength to help keep the cylinder head securely in place under demanding conditions, reducing the potential for cylinder head movement and head gasket issues. 220,000 PSI Tensile Strength The XDP X220 Series head studs are manufactured from 8740 Chromoly Steel with an added proprietary element for increased strength. The studs feature threads that are rolled after heat treatment to maximize fatigue strength and are rated at 220,000 PSI tensile strength. The 10mm studs have also been tested to a maximum load exceeding 120kN. More Consistent Clamping Force Replacing conventional head bolts with studs provides a more consistent clamping force during installation. Because a stud remains stationary while the nut is tightened, less twisting force is introduced into the fastener compared with a conventional bolt. This allows for more accurate torque readings and more uniform cylinder head clamping.
