Description
Diesel engines, unlike gasoline engines, don't slow down simply by taking your foot off the accelerator; they rely on service and supplemental brakes. An exhaust brake is a form of a supplemental brake, and they work much differently than their conventional counterparts.Introducing the Pacbrake PRXB Pacbrake's flagship product, the PRXB (pressure regulated exhaust brake), is the unquestioned leader in the supplemental brake industry. The patented PRXB design delivers the strongest braking horsepower, greatest speed reductions and shortest stopping distances possible without the use of service brakes. It maintains optimum retarding performance by maximizing the exhaust backpressure throughout the entire RPM range. Unlike a typical exhaust brake, which requires high RPMs to work properly, the PRXB delivers constant exhaust pressure (braking) as early as 1200 RPM through to the maximum allowable RPM. Controlled by a master ON/OFF switch, Pacbrake's exhaust brakes provide whisper quiet supplemental braking that allows service brakes to be used much less, ultimately saving you money. They have the ability to be left on all the time, making it ideal for in-city driving or for steep, downhill grades. This product pays for itself as less wear on the brake pads means fewer brake jobs. In order to have consistent and effective braking over the entire RPM range, it is important (and necessary) to maintain constant backpressure. To achieve this, Pacbrake's patented design has incorporated an additional waste gate on the butterfly valve to regulate the amount of exhaust flow that is being passed through. The flow is controlled by a spring-loaded arm, whose pressure rating and location are key factors in the functionality of the PRXB. Located outside of the housing and away from the heat, the spring is able to maintain its strength and durability for years of proper and precise braking performance. PRXB Exhaust Brakes: PRXB To The Test Two trucks, one equipped with a PRXB exhaust brake and the other with our competitors exhaust brake, are traveling down a 5% grade. Both vehicles start descending at the same time while traveling at a speed of 45 MPH. With a sharp corner ahead, both vehicles activate their exhaust brake... RESULTS AFTER 60 SECONDS The truck equipped with the PRXB slowed to a safe cornering speed (18 MPH) in just under 1/2 mile. In that same amount of time, the truck equipped with our competitors exhaust brake traveled 450 ft MORE and was still moving at a dangerous 30 MPH. Did this truck slow down in time?

About PacBrake
PACBRAKE EXHAUST BRAKES

Pacbrake is a manufacturing company based out of Langley, British Columbia that began operations in 1961, specializing in exhaust and engine brakes for commercial truckers, loggers, and the military. Today, their expertise still lies on exhaust braking solutions, but it goes well beyond this and into numerous other vehicle upgrades such as air suspension, air compressors, complete air management solutions, and so much more.

PACBRAKE EXHAUST BRAKES

Diesel Power Products is proud to offer the complete line of Pacbrake PRXB Exhaust Brakes for Cummins, Duramax and Powerstroke diesels. At the time of their release, the PRXB line of brakes was unlike any other, and still maintains superiority over many alternatives to this day. So what does PRXB mean and how does it work? PRXB stands for "Pressure Release Exhaust Brake." Basically, all exhaust brakes have to release a certain amount of exhaust, otherwise it would cause excessive backpressure to the engine and cause damage. However, PRXB's are unique in that they have a variable release so that as RPM's slow down, so does the release of exhaust, equating to better retarding power at lower RPM's. If you tow with your diesel and don't have an exhaust brake, you're simply missing out on the peace of mind and safety that it delivers. Pacbrake's kits come complete, even torque converter lockup controllers when applicable, exhaust adapters for aftermarket oversized exhaust, and more.

PACBRAKE AIR BAGS & AIR COMPRESSORS

With a name like Pacbrake you would assume that they ONLY make diesel exhaust brakes. That couldn't be farther from the truth. Pacbrake has jumped into the light duty diesel truck market with an innovative product line including AMP series air bags, air suspension, Dodge short shift kits, on board air kits and accessories and their MaxFlow Elbow for 1994-2002 Ram trucks which is based on the same elbow used in the PRXB MaxFlow Exhaust Brake kit. Pacbrake manufactures exhaust brakes for GM Duramax, Ford Powerstroke and Cummins Diesels. Not sure which Pacbrake part is right for you? Give us a call or send us an email, we'll be glad to help!

2001 Dodge install

"The install wasn't too bad considering truck had aftermarket exhaust and air filter. Had to modify both to complete install and happy with result. Only complaint was the instructions, got through it with youtube videos and a call to PacBrake to verify a couple items on the parts list. Very pleased with the overall function of the air brake."

Made a big difference in my rig!

"My son and I just put this into the exhaust system of the '02 Ram 2500 I bought recently. Aside from the exhaust pipe components being crimped together it was a relatively easy install. The instructions that come with it are pretty good. It's nice not having to depend on the OEM brake system for stopping when you're towing."

Chuck B. (5/5)

Best add on for any towing truck

"What are you waiting for if you tow a lot of heavy loads and you don’t have one of these on your trucks you’re missing of extremely!! I can’t believe I waited so long to buy one of these! A must have! Thanks DPP for the suggestion to add this hands down best thing I have done to date! Will never drive another towing truck without one!"

Brandon J. (5/5)

It works great, just like

"It works great, just like it is advertised. Has been in use for only a couple of weeks. Install was longer then expected due to the welding required. Had checked it out with others using exhaust brakes and they agreed that it appeared to be better built then others they have seen."

Q&A

Do you have a engine brake for a Detroit V8?
Unfortunately I would not have anything for that application.
My 02 already has a compressor and air tank on board. Can I just buy the exhaust brake and wiring with no compressor?
You will want to contact Pacbrake to ensure that the tank and compressor set up you have currently will be able to keep up with current demand and whatever the exhaust brake requires to ensure you are not overworking your current compressor. -Mark
I have a 99 2500 auto transmission and i want to add a turbo will this product work with compound applications or just single set ups ?
That would work on stock singles only. You would need what they refer to as an inline brake. Like the PB-C44062. Just make sure to select the correct year range. And exhaust pipe adapter size. -Sands
I have a 98.5 24v 5spd, the instructions say that 98 and 98.5 24v do not have the exhaust brake activated in the ECM. But they make no mention if it is something that can be activated or if its not an option at all. Or if one were to have their ECM flashed with a 99 program, would it then work?
That is an excellent question. Assuming pacbrake did their research on this. There is probably no way to get it activated or updated to work. Their solution is the C14004 ECM bypass. -Sands
