Description
This exhaust brake is to be mounted directly to the factory turbo, or with an aftermarket turbo with the same outlet flange as the factory. Diesel engines, unlike gasoline engines, don't slow down simply by taking your foot off the accelerator; they rely on service and supplemental brakes. An exhaust brake is a form of a supplemental brake, and they work much differently than their conventional counterparts.Introducing the Pacbrake PRXB Pacbrake's flagship product, the PRXB (pressure regulated exhaust brake), is the unquestioned leader in the supplemental brake industry. The patented PRXB design delivers the strongest braking horsepower, greatest speed reductions and shortest stopping distances possible without the use of service brakes. It maintains optimum retarding performance by maximizing the exhaust backpressure throughout the entire RPM range. Unlike a typical exhaust brake, which requires high RPMs to work properly, the PRXB delivers constant exhaust pressure (braking) as early as 1200 RPM through to the maximum allowable RPM. Controlled by a master ON/OFF switch, Pacbrake's exhaust brakes provide whisper quiet supplemental braking that allows service brakes to be used much less, ultimately saving you money. They have the ability to be left on all the time, making it ideal for in-city driving or for steep, downhill grades. This product pays for itself as less wear on the brake pads means fewer brake jobs. In order to have consistent and effective braking over the entire RPM range, it is important (and necessary) to maintain constant backpressure. To achieve this, Pacbrake's patented design has incorporated an additional waste gate on the butterfly valve to regulate the amount of exhaust flow that is being passed through. The flow is controlled by a spring-loaded arm, whose pressure rating and location are key factors in the functionality of the PRXB. Located outside of the housing and away from the heat, the spring is able to maintain its strength and durability for years of proper and precise braking performance. PRXB Exhaust Brakes: PRXB To The Test Two trucks, one equipped with a PRXB exhaust brake and the other with our competitors exhaust brake, are traveling down a 5% grade. Both vehicles start descending at the same time while traveling at a speed of 45 MPH. With a sharp corner ahead, both vehicles activate their exhaust brake... RESULTS AFTER 60 SECONDS The truck equipped with the PRXB slowed to a safe cornering speed (18 MPH) in just under 1/2 mile. In that same amount of time, the truck equipped with our competitors exhaust brake traveled 450 ft MORE and was still moving at a dangerous 30 MPH. Did this truck slow down in time? IMPORTANT NOTES: If you have added an aftermarket 4" exhaust, you will need (1) additional exhaust adapter (C11342). Kits for automatic transmission trucks include a torque converter lockup controller. All three kits come with heavy duty 60 psi exhaust valve springs. This exhaust brake is to be mounted directly to the factory turbo, or with an aftermarket turbo with the same outlet flange as the factory.

About PacBrake
PACBRAKE EXHAUST BRAKES

Pacbrake is a manufacturing company based out of Langley, British Columbia that began operations in 1961, specializing in exhaust and engine brakes for commercial truckers, loggers, and the military. Today, their expertise still lies on exhaust braking solutions, but it goes well beyond this and into numerous other vehicle upgrades such as air suspension, air compressors, complete air management solutions, and so much more.

PACBRAKE EXHAUST BRAKES

Diesel Power Products is proud to offer the complete line of Pacbrake PRXB Exhaust Brakes for Cummins, Duramax and Powerstroke diesels. At the time of their release, the PRXB line of brakes was unlike any other, and still maintains superiority over many alternatives to this day. So what does PRXB mean and how does it work? PRXB stands for "Pressure Release Exhaust Brake." Basically, all exhaust brakes have to release a certain amount of exhaust, otherwise it would cause excessive backpressure to the engine and cause damage. However, PRXB's are unique in that they have a variable release so that as RPM's slow down, so does the release of exhaust, equating to better retarding power at lower RPM's. If you tow with your diesel and don't have an exhaust brake, you're simply missing out on the peace of mind and safety that it delivers. Pacbrake's kits come complete, even torque converter lockup controllers when applicable, exhaust adapters for aftermarket oversized exhaust, and more.

PACBRAKE AIR BAGS & AIR COMPRESSORS

With a name like Pacbrake you would assume that they ONLY make diesel exhaust brakes. That couldn't be farther from the truth. Pacbrake has jumped into the light duty diesel truck market with an innovative product line including AMP series air bags, air suspension, Dodge short shift kits, on board air kits and accessories and their MaxFlow Elbow for 1994-2002 Ram trucks which is based on the same elbow used in the PRXB MaxFlow Exhaust Brake kit. Pacbrake manufactures exhaust brakes for GM Duramax, Ford Powerstroke and Cummins Diesels. Not sure which Pacbrake part is right for you? Give us a call or send us an email, we'll be glad to help!

Works as expected.

"Shipped and showed up in a timely manner. Sat on the shelf for a few months until time and weather allowed an install. Install went pretty easy, could use a little better pictures on some of the instructions, and the directions were missing a number, not sure if they were miss numbered, or something got left out. Instead of splicing the black wire that was out in the middle of nowhere, I pulled it back through the loom and ran it in the cab. I soaked the 5 bolts in the turbo housing a couple times with some Kroil and they came out easier than expected. May have to do some work on the air compressor mounting plate so it clears the intake elbow better, and may end up figuring out a way to attach it instead of it just being tucked under the battery. Still working on a bracket to mount the dash switch in a more convenient spot than under the steering wheel. I did all the work, and then drove the truck to a muffler shop to weld the down pipe onto the new exhaust flange. Truck warms up a lot faster with the brake engaged. Havent pulled anything yet, but it does slow the truck noticably empty when you let off the throttle."

Works

"Instructions were fairly easy to follow for me The exhaust needs an actual exhaust repair shop to fix the head pipe to line up correctly. All in all good product for the money."

Q&A

Will this work on my 96 class a pusher diesel with a 5.9 Cummins?
This kit is specific to the 94-98 Dodge pickup with the 5.9 Cummins.
Does this come with a toggle on/off switch?
This kit comes standard with a dash mounted on/off switch. -Mark
I have a '98 12V and looking to upgrade the exhaust to a true 4" system from the elbow back. I would prefer maxflo elbow and brake combined. So I'm a little confused, the Pacbrake website says this is a 4" elbow; but in notes says it fits stock 3" exhaust, so which is it 3" or 4". Pacbrake kit #C44076
The Pacbrake "brake" has an adapter that comes with it to weld on to a 3in dia downpipe. If you have a 4in downpipe and want to use that you need to get a C11342 adapter as well. -Sands

Good morning, I have a 1994 dodge cummins 5.9 with manual transmission, and with the Pac Brake PRXB TURBO MOUNT Exhaust Brake Kit, what other items will I need for installation? Valve springs? I would also like gear shift mounted push pull actuator. Can you please give me a list of all items that are needed that are not included in this kit? Thank you, Craig
Those kits come with valve springs. If you have a aftermarket 4 inch exhaust you will need the pacbrake 4inch adapter. It does require a little cutting and welding the exhaust adapter on. I'll send you instructions so you can look them over.
