If you're looking for a little more oomph out of your Duramax, this drop in replacement Garrett PowerMax turbo will give you that, and more.
Designed to support up to 500 RWHP, the Stage One PowerMax features a patented Advanced Variable Nozzle Turbine(AVNT) design for increased compressor and turbine flow in order to keep drive pressures, as well as EGT's (Exhaust Gas Temperatures) at a minimum. This turbo is a great compliment for those running a moderate to extreme programmer that use their trucks for daily driving or towing. Due to its ball bearing cartridge, journal bearing cartridge failures are a thing of the past, as well as will provide enhanced bottom end response compared to the factory unit, all while being able to handle higher boost pressures.

About Garrett
Garrett Turbochargers are OEM equipment on many cars and trucks. The also have an aftermarket diesel performance turbo line marketed as POWERMAX Performance Diesel. At Diesel Power Products we carry a variety of Garrett stock turbo parts as well as a few of their more popular performance models. The GTP38R ball bearing turbo that Garrett produces specifically for the 99-03 7.3L Ford Powerstrokes is by far the most popular turbo we sell. It features a 4" intake along with a custom silicone adapter hose, a ported shroud intake housing which helps control surging, a 1.0 A/R exhaust housing to help keep EGT's down, a large 88mm compressor wheel to manage all that airflow and, of course, a ball bearing cartridge. The ball bearing aspect is what really sets it apart. No journal bearing turbo can touch it when it comes to spool-up or reliability. The GTP38R functions best in Powerstrokes making up to around 475HP. You can stretch it a little further by substituting a 1.15 A/R exhaust housing for the 1.0. The 1.15 is non-wastegated and requires a machined adapter, which we also carry. You can even order the turbo in this configuration if you prefer.
If you prefer to stay with the stock turbo we carry a full line of Garrett stock replacements for the Ford Powerstrokes. We can also make a variety of modifications to the stock turbo to make it suit you needs. These mods include: ATS ported shroud, wastegated or non-wastegated 1.0 A/R or 1.15 A/R exhaust housings, wicked wheel, upgraded BD Power wastegates to control creep, non EBV pedestals and more. "This is one screamin turbo. From the second you cross 1100 RPMs you sound like a semi hauling a 50 foot trailer. The amount of air this thing moves and the speed at which it spools is impressive. I only have my PPE tuner on level two for the safety of my 175000 mile transmission and because I dont have a lift pump, but its a beast at that. I'm running slightly lower boost than stock because with the EGR delete it runs at a lower boost due to the increased efficiency, but It's as fast as the stock turbo was on bully dog extreme setting. The way in which the power is delivered is smooth and drivable. The only downside to any turbo really on a Duramax is you're looking at a pretty hefty install charge from a shop or setting aside a couple days. I have an aftermarket intake pipe, a magnaflow downpipe to 4 inch straight exhaust out the back. Combined with the sinister EGR blocker plates the truck really does drive like a brand-new diesel, absolutely smooth throughout the entire power band and a smooth not rough ramp up of the boost."
Just had this turbo installed as a replacemen. . .
"Just had this turbo installed as a replacement to the stock one that had bearing failure. Mostly was interested in the fact it had addressed the bearing issue. After my first drive all I can say is WOW!!! My truck never pulled like this before, even when new. The whine from the exhaust is cool, sounds like a semi truck. (some may not like this) but it is obviously moving more air. Now to see if fuel economy improves. NOTE-do the LBZ turbo inlet feed upgrade at same time. We have MBRP exhaust with Bully Dog tuner"

- Is this turbo legal in California
- I do not believe so. It does not carry a CARB eo number. Only stock turbos or ones that carry a CARB eo number are legal for sale in CA .-Sands
- Does the turbo come with an install kit or is that a separate order?
- It unfortunately does not come with an install kit, you would need to purchase one separately. -Sands
- Does this turbocharger come with replacement gaskets and all the hardware needed to replace the stock turbo?
- That turbo does not come with any gaskets. You would want to order a separate install gasket set. -Sands
- Are you able to use stock injectors with this stage 1 turbo or do you have to upgrade fuel delivery and injectors?
- You could use that turbo with stock injectors and fuel system.
