With the release of the completely redesigned 6.0L Powerstroke in 2003 came a host of new upgrades and technology for these trucks. One of the upgrades was the release of the Variable Vane Turbo from Garrett. This turbo had the ability to act both like a smaller framed turbo, as well as a larger because of its ability to internally expand and contract because of variable vanes within the turbo. Unfortunately, this design saw several downfalls, mostly in that the vanes were prone to getting stuck in a single position due to soot accumulation. Over the years, Garrett managed to refine these turbos and their tolerances to make them live a long and happy life. While Garrett may have made improvements to these turbos, many truck owners were left with the original designs and warranties that have long since expired. We offer these direct OE replacement turbos sourced directly from Garrett as new units to replace your original turbo. About Garrett
Garrett Turbochargers are OEM equipment on many cars and trucks. The also have an aftermarket diesel performance turbo line marketed as POWERMAX Performance Diesel. At Diesel Power Products we carry a variety of Garrett stock turbo parts as well as a few of their more popular performance models. The GTP38R ball bearing turbo that Garrett produces specifically for the 99-03 7.3L Ford Powerstrokes is by far the most popular turbo we sell. It features a 4" intake along with a custom silicone adapter hose, a ported shroud intake housing which helps control surging, a 1.0 A/R exhaust housing to help keep EGT's down, a large 88mm compressor wheel to manage all that airflow and, of course, a ball bearing cartridge. The ball bearing aspect is what really sets it apart. No journal bearing turbo can touch it when it comes to spool-up or reliability. The GTP38R functions best in Powerstrokes making up to around 475HP. You can stretch it a little further by substituting a 1.15 A/R exhaust housing for the 1.0. The 1.15 is non-wastegated and requires a machined adapter, which we also carry. You can even order the turbo in this configuration if you prefer.

If you prefer to stay with the stock turbo we carry a full line of Garrett stock replacements for the Ford Powerstrokes. We can also make a variety of modifications to the stock turbo to make it suit you needs. These mods include: ATS ported shroud, wastegated or non-wastegated 1.0 A/R or 1.15 A/R exhaust housings, wicked wheel, upgraded BD Power wastegates to control creep, non EBV pedestals and more. "I purchased a turbo for my 6. 0L powerstroke. Paid for faster shipping. When the turbo arrived it was damaged; the plug for the solenoid was in pieces. I contacted DPP via email (with pictures) on a Saturday. I was contacted within an hour by Jennifer Kemp. I had 3 scenarios in mind that would have been a satisfactory resolution: A partial refund for the cost of the solenoid. Over night me a solenoid which I would change out. Overnight me a new turbo at DPP's expense. Jennifer had a revolution plan that exceeded my expectations. Not only did she set up the overnight of a new turbo (a 40lb package) at the company's expense, she also refunded the cost of my original expedited shipping from the original order. The cost to ship the damaged turbo back was also taken care of. Within minutes of the replacement turbo being delivered (literally minutes!) Jennifer was contacting me to make sure the turbo arrived intact. I was unboxing when she contacted me. I have no regrets spending my money with this company and will do so again."

I have a 2006 does this turbo have the whistle like the 03 had
It will not, the 2003 had the 10 blade turbine wheel. The later trucks had a 13 if I'm not mistaken. You might be interested in the BD Screamer stage 1. It uses a 10 blade turbine wheel and the taller VGT Vanes. -Sands
my truck was built 3/21/05 but can't find engine number needed. where can i find this
It should be on the FICM module if it has not been changed. Or the emissions id tag that is on the passenger valve cover. If all those are a bust. Then the only other spot is on the back of the block driver side, should be a small machined smooth surface right under the deck, it will be stamped there. Hope that helps! -Sands
