Description
Interference in the throttle position sensor circuits (APPS) on Dodge Cummins engines from 1994 to 2004 will create false voltage readings in the APPS (Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor) circuit and cause the lock-up torque converter to rapidly cycle on and off as you drive. This quick and easy fix removes the annoying and potentially harmful RF interference.

About BD-Power

BD Diesel is known as one of the originators of diesel performance because theyve been there since the very beginning. Its by no coincidence that theyve been in the industry since 1972 where theyve seen competition come and go over the years. You could consider them a front to back organization in which they design and manufacture products ranging from Super B Turbo Kits and performance injectors for your Cummins to heavy duty transmissions, torque converters, and other transmission components for your Duramax to Positive Air Shutdowns and exhaust brakes for your Powerstroke and everything in between. Quite literally, there are VERY few components that BD does not build for nearly every light duty diesel application.

BD DIESEL PERFORMANCE

Originally founded in 1972 as Valley Fuel Injection that specialized in fuel injection rebuilding and calibrating, BD Diesel gained the most notoriety beginning in 1989 with the release of their first exhaust brake designed for Ram trucks with the acclaimed 12 Valve Cummins engine. BD would later rename Valley Fuel Injection to BD Diesel Truck Service and Performance Center that operates as an extension to BD Diesel Performance. Today, they operate out of a 65,000 square foot facility in Abbotsford, British Columbia and employ over 100 highly skilled individuals. They are constantly pushing the envelope with forward thinking products that not only fill voids in the marketplace, but also take existing products and push them to the next level.

BD DIESEL TRANSMISSION UPGRADES

Transmissions have a singular but ambitious challenge - to transfer all the torque from the diesel engine to the drive wheels. This must be accomplished while maintaining shift quality and minimizing NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness). With stock or OE configurations, this capacity challenge is somewhat less than extraordinary. Comparatively, a high output diesel that develops 2-4 times the original engine torque and keeping stellar driving characteristics at this power level becomes a new feat. Utilizing the latest technology in CAD and FEA simulation, BD can predict and eliminate failures before they happen. The dedicated team of BDs Transmission and Torque Convertor Department are true experts in the development and analysis of the diesel transmission.

BD EXHAUST BRAKES

BD built its reputation on exhaust brakes starting in the early 90's with many casting designs for both engine and remote mount air actuated systems. Rugged cast-iron bodies with an offset stainless steel butterfly build peak efficiency quickly.

BD TURBO UPGRADES

The turbocharger industry is a special industry for BD and remains a key technological asset. When looking at BDs experienced staff, the majority of their key staff members have been developed in or around this technology. BD focuses on the customer's needs, whether it is fast turnaround, state of the art compressor wheels or turbine wheels, they look to deliver on the highest expectations. You can be assured that a BD turbocharger has been hand crafted to the greatest standards. Using precision lathes, milling equipment, honing machines, and inspection CMMs your turbocharger is continuously graded to exceed the OEMs specifications.

BD FUELING UPGRADES

Owing to its heritage as a diesel fuel systems specialist, BD Diesel Truck Service & Performance Center is a factory-certified Bosch, Stanadyne, Delphi and Zexel calibration and repair lab. They are one of a select few injection shops in North America to have Bosch Common Rail parts and an overhaul and testing franchise. BD Diesel rebuilds most all mechanical and electronically-controlled fuel pumps and injectors for diesel engine applications.

BD ELECTRONICS

Throughout the automotive industry, electronic technology has become an integral part of the OEM solution. Whether it is safety, performance, or driving improvements, BD Diesel Performance has developed a strong electronic department to focus strictly on this technology. By focusing on the core needs of the customer, they engineer out the possible product failures and maximize key features to deliver a top to bottom solution. Utilizing state of the art manufacturing equipment, BD maximizes value and minimizes time consuming tasks that inflate costs. Vehicle electronic technology will remain a key technology at BD Diesel Performance.

99 Dodge diesel shifting issue solved

"A parts store owner told me of this product to help with my truck shifting randomly while driving. It was easy to install and was affordable. I think that it should come with a small tube of oxidizer to install on the fittings and wires with the packaging. I watched a YouTube video and that is what they used and it makes total sense to keep the electrical connection good. Great product. Solved my problem, no more random shifting."

Good product

"Seems to have help with in and out in shifting . But also made sure all grounds and cables were new and clean as well."

Kevin C. (5/5)

So far so good. Took

"So far so good. Took care of my torque converter unlocking and locking randomly while cruising in 4th gear. I didn’t change anything else on the truck. It’s been a few months of driving without that transmission fault present."

Wait & See

"Truck is in the body shop to I haven't installed it yet. I shielded the PCM & TPS with heavy duty Reynolds wrap and it has never run better so I expect the part to work just as well. Disappointed in the shipping cost which was twice the amount of the part. FedEx shipped it from WA to TN, back to WA and then the AK. Took over a week. USPS priority mail would have taken 3 days for a part that small and light."

Q&A

Will this work on my 03 with a nv4500? I am having slight surge issues above 2k rpm and highway speeds. Almost like I’m pushing the gas, letting off, pushing it again and so on.
While this part will physically install onto your truck, it most likely will not fix your issue. The reason for this is because its not the fact that the APPS signal is unsteady necessarily, more so that the signal is causing the torque converter on an automatic transmission to go in and out of lockup. Now, you could be having an issue with the APPS itself and the first thing I'd recommend doing is doing basically a relearn where you turn the key to the on position, engine not running, and slowly push the throttle pedal all the way to the floor, then turn the key off. That resets it. Next you can disconnect the battery cables and let the truck sit overnight, then reconnect in the morning, sometimes that works. Oh, and sometimes just give your grounds a good cleaning, especially on the batteries. Now, if that doesn't solve it, I would recommend running a check of your pressure relief valve on the fuel rail and your lift pump pressure while you're cruising down the road. Especially if you still have the stock engine mounted fuel pump, that could be the culprit. Check out this article we posted a while ago that covers common fuel related problems on this generation of truck and may help to diagnose the surging issue. https://www.dieselpowerproducts.com/blog/2003-2007-cummins-no-start-no-problem/
Does this fit I think my truck is considered late 04 like july I think. Or can we look it up vin
It will only fit with an engine mounted APPS(accelerator pedal position sensor). If you have the APPS sensor on your throttle pedal under your dash it will not work. -Sands
Your listing shows it is for 2005 trucks. The instructions do not include how to hook it up for 2005. It stops at 2004. So which wire do I hook it to on a 05 truck?
Our listing has been properly updated to reflect the proper year range this fits. If this was purchased for a 2005 truck, please contact our return department to get a return going on the item.
does the noise that causes the o.d. shift issue also cause the crankshaft position sensors failures? if not any devices to cure the constant failures thanks, mike 2000 5.9 cummins
This part should not cause any crank position failures no. That would be the first we have heard of that issue. - AW
