Description
Is your performance module causing transmission shudder and clutch slippage? Prevent torque converter shudder and clutch slippage on the 2005-2007 Dodge 5.9L with 48RE transmissions by installing the BD 48REPressure Controller. Easily plugs inline with factory sealed connectors to the 48RE TTVA motor on the driver's side of the transmission making for a clean installation. Like its predecessors (47RH/47RE), the 48RE transmission's low mainline pressure at lighter throttle pedal position can cause shudder and slippage. When coupled behind the Common Rail 5.9L Diesel engine with its peak torque at mid-range RPM's, this potential shudder and slippage can be amplified. When engaged with the rotary switch mounted on the dash, the Pressure Controller has three different levels that can be selected to increase mainline pressure by mimicking higher throttle positions, preventing mid-range converter shutter and clutch/band slippage. The Pressure Controller is designed to almost eliminate all shuttle shifting with light throttle and as an added feature, this unit slightly holds or delays shifting to prevent lugging and improve transmission function - reduces shift flare and gear hunting. The Pressure Controller's pressure increase is at its greatest during light throttle positions and ramps towards stock pressures as the pedal gets closer to full throttle when the extra pressure is no longer needed. With performance modules for the 5.9L Diesel engine, the increase in horsepower tends to make the driver apply less throttle to obtain desired vehicle speeds. In turn, the less APPS(Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor) applied causes lower mainline transmission pressures to be developed causing potential shudder and slippage. The Pressure Controller compensates for lower APPS Accelerator Pedal Position Sensor and brings the pressure up to a level to protect the transmission and converter. Compared to some of the competition on the market, the BD 48RE Pressure Controller has higher pressure, more elaborate control and easy factory plug-in installation. Another reason to think BD when looking for your Diesel transmission needs.

About BD-Power

BD Diesel is known as one of the originators of diesel performance because theyve been there since the very beginning. Its by no coincidence that theyve been in the industry since 1972 where theyve seen competition come and go over the years. You could consider them a front to back organization in which they design and manufacture products ranging from Super B Turbo Kits and performance injectors for your Cummins to heavy duty transmissions, torque converters, and other transmission components for your Duramax to Positive Air Shutdowns and exhaust brakes for your Powerstroke and everything in between. Quite literally, there are VERY few components that BD does not build for nearly every light duty diesel application.

BD DIESEL PERFORMANCE

Originally founded in 1972 as Valley Fuel Injection that specialized in fuel injection rebuilding and calibrating, BD Diesel gained the most notoriety beginning in 1989 with the release of their first exhaust brake designed for Ram trucks with the acclaimed 12 Valve Cummins engine. BD would later rename Valley Fuel Injection to BD Diesel Truck Service and Performance Center that operates as an extension to BD Diesel Performance. Today, they operate out of a 65,000 square foot facility in Abbotsford, British Columbia and employ over 100 highly skilled individuals. They are constantly pushing the envelope with forward thinking products that not only fill voids in the marketplace, but also take existing products and push them to the next level.

BD DIESEL TRANSMISSION UPGRADES

Transmissions have a singular but ambitious challenge - to transfer all the torque from the diesel engine to the drive wheels. This must be accomplished while maintaining shift quality and minimizing NVH (Noise, Vibration, and Harshness). With stock or OE configurations, this capacity challenge is somewhat less than extraordinary. Comparatively, a high output diesel that develops 2-4 times the original engine torque and keeping stellar driving characteristics at this power level becomes a new feat. Utilizing the latest technology in CAD and FEA simulation, BD can predict and eliminate failures before they happen. The dedicated team of BDs Transmission and Torque Convertor Department are true experts in the development and analysis of the diesel transmission.

BD EXHAUST BRAKES

BD built its reputation on exhaust brakes starting in the early 90's with many casting designs for both engine and remote mount air actuated systems. Rugged cast-iron bodies with an offset stainless steel butterfly build peak efficiency quickly.

BD TURBO UPGRADES

The turbocharger industry is a special industry for BD and remains a key technological asset. When looking at BDs experienced staff, the majority of their key staff members have been developed in or around this technology. BD focuses on the customer's needs, whether it is fast turnaround, state of the art compressor wheels or turbine wheels, they look to deliver on the highest expectations. You can be assured that a BD turbocharger has been hand crafted to the greatest standards. Using precision lathes, milling equipment, honing machines, and inspection CMMs your turbocharger is continuously graded to exceed the OEMs specifications.

BD FUELING UPGRADES

Owing to its heritage as a diesel fuel systems specialist, BD Diesel Truck Service & Performance Center is a factory-certified Bosch, Stanadyne, Delphi and Zexel calibration and repair lab. They are one of a select few injection shops in North America to have Bosch Common Rail parts and an overhaul and testing franchise. BD Diesel rebuilds most all mechanical and electronically-controlled fuel pumps and injectors for diesel engine applications.

BD ELECTRONICS

Throughout the automotive industry, electronic technology has become an integral part of the OEM solution. Whether it is safety, performance, or driving improvements, BD Diesel Performance has developed a strong electronic department to focus strictly on this technology. By focusing on the core needs of the customer, they engineer out the possible product failures and maximize key features to deliver a top to bottom solution. Utilizing state of the art manufacturing equipment, BD maximizes value and minimizes time consuming tasks that inflate costs. Vehicle electronic technology will remain a key technology at BD Diesel Performance.

I give the 48RE pressure controller a rating . . .

"I give the 48RE pressure controller a rating of 5 stars because it does increase shift pressures, but if your transmission is already slipping when you mash it then I think its time to face facts like I did and realize that you need to rebuild your transmission"

If you tow/ride in mountain terrain, it´s a n. . .

"If you tow/ride in mountain terrain, it´s a nice addon to the 48re. easy install, no need to cut/split anything, better than the other one of the competition. . ."

I recently purchased this product for my 06 3. . .

"I recently purchased this product for my 06 3500 Mega Cab. As always the people at DPP got this thing out and to my house fast. My truck was doing the shuttle shift between gears and I thought this would help. Well for my situation it didn't help. It actually made it worse. Now that being said I don't blame BD for a bad product, I just had underlying issues that needed fixed first. Installation was easy and the directions were easy to follow. After addressing my transmission issues and making some other internal changes this part was no longer needed. This is why I give it 4 star instead of 5. I really never used so I can't confirm how good it truly works but I can confirm it was a quality product."

Q&A

I have a 2005 5.9L Cummins with a fair amount of performance enhancers matched up to an ATS transmission. With NO load on the back, I have no issues with the transmission at all. However, when I hook up to a load, my transmission will NOT shift into high gear without backing off the accelerator and returning to the top of the foot feed. Then it shifts UP and I can return to applying power to the ground. Will this product fix this issue?
Is this while in Tow/Haul mode? Does it shift three times or twice? DppSands

it feels like my engine is screaming and I'm not going anywhere until the torque converter locks up in 4th gear will this help my problem on my 06 ram 3500
A convertor issue is likely the culprit, installing this would be a band-aid. We would recommend having the transmission fixed and diagnosed before adding controllers. - AW
So if I were to purchase this and install it will help my shuttle shift. 2-3-2-3-2 at around 35 mph? And what would be a good set for daily driving around town? I have decent tranny build billet single disc T/C and reworked valve body and billet accum and strut band and running the edge evolution 85400 on economy level thank you
It is supposed to take care of that yes. But your valve body work should take care of it also. Most will run in pos. 2 for daily.
