Grab a Red-Head replacement steering gearbox for your HD Chevrolet or GMC! No, this is not just another rebuilt box like what you'll get at your local auto parts store! These steering boxes are built in Washington state and offer unmatched steering control and longevity. We have personally run several other brands and have had the best results to date with the Red-Head.
This gearbox allows you to retain the factory steering shaft, as well as the stock pitman arm. This is a major advantage, especially for those with lifted trucks with dropped pitman arms, you will not have to change your pitman arm.

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING ELECTRONICS: 2015 IS A SPLIT YEAR. YOU WILL NEED TO VISUALLY CONFIRM YOUR BOX HAS ELECTRONICS If your truck is a 2015, you may have electronics, but you may not. Thus far we have not been able to determine a good, 100% correct way to confirm this other than to check the box you have on your truck. Please do not go by the build date, the ONLY way to be 100% sure is to put eyes on the box you have on the truck currently. If your steering box does NOT have an electronic plug connected to it, you are on the correct listing, which is PN: RH-2874. If your steering box has an electronic plug connected to it, the listing for PN: RH-2875, which is NOT the listing you are looking at, is correct. And its no wonder, most of us install larger tires, haul a considerable amount of weight, periodically use them offroad, and even put snowplows on the front. All of these put considerable stress on your steering components. All of those stresses coupled with the fact that the OEM steering gears, or basically anything you find at your local parts store, could be considered absolute garbage means that the majority of us are driving around with loose, wandering steering that must be constantly corrected in order to keep the truck in your lane. That is, unless youve upgraded your Cummins, Powerstroke, or Duramax with a Redhead!
Red-Head Steering Gears was founded in 1981 by Seattle area automotive entrepreneur, Warren Foster, who also founded Foster's Service in Georgetown, WA (now Foster's Frame & Axle) and T 'n' W Pumps in Georgetown, WA (now Foster & Snyder in Pingree, ND).
The business was purchased by Tom Foster and then Harvey Foster, both nephews of Warren. Tom is now retired in Arizona. Harvey moved to Seattle in 1979 to go to work for Warren in his frame and axle business. This knowledge of front ends has been very helpful in diagnosing steering problems.
Harvey worked at the frame and axle shop for 6 1/2 years before joining Tom at Red-Head. Harvey has built and tested between 43,000 and 47,000 steering gears in the past 21 years. This business has had and continues to have a number of other great employees, all family members.

- You would need to see if your truck has an electronic provisions going to the steering gear box, typically if the truck has lane assist function it does have electronic provisions.
- I have a 2015 GMC Sierra 3500HD, mine is not a diesel it is a 6.0L. Can I still use this steering box as I don’t want to use a cheap parts store one you have to replace every other year.
- Yes, as long as your truck does not have the electronic steering provision, this gearbox will work with your truck.
- im hoping you might know more about my steering problem than anyone else! 2012 GMC Duramax dually is tough to steer. Low speeds are really tough. Steering doesnt always want to "return" as well. its been a long term problem and i had dealer change fluid but no help. I know a lot of GMC have had steering issues but the truck falls between the earlier model year problems and the electrical issues that recalled in 2015. Have you dealt with this? Advise? Dave
- Almost sounds like something is bound up. I would raise the front off the ground and move the wheel back and forth and see if it is hard to turn still. If it is something is bound up in the linkage or potentially a ball joint that you are fighting. -Sands
