Description
Ensure that the power of your Cummins is getting to the ground with an ATS Transmission Package. The 48RE transmission is the weakest point on a Dodge Cummins truck. Not only do they fail on trucks with minor upgrades, but even trucks in stock form have been known to be too powerful. A heavy duty truck needs parts which can stand up to heavy trailers, stop-and-go commutes to work, or high-horsepower applications. That's why ATS modifies the transmission to make it the strongest and most reliable part of your drivetrain. With the many shortcomings of the 48RE, none are more important than the clutch packs. This is what takes the power load and transmits it to the rear wheels. ATS transmissions increase the clutch count in the Forward, Overdrive, and Overdrive Brake clutch packs which allow much higher torque capacity in each gear. Clutch material is also essential which is why ATS uses Borg Warner and Raybestos clutches which has both high torque strength, as well as longevity and reliability. Another important aspect is the hard parts on the transmission. The factory sheet metal strut anchor is replaced with a much stronger billet strut anchor, allowing more precision application of the band. The factory plastic accumulator piston is replaced with a billet unit, as well. The apply lever is a 1:5.0 ratio apply arm, which applies the Borg Warner red lining band. This band features a performance friction material capable of holding higher power levels. The valve body receives extensive modifications, as well. The ATS valve body has the ability to lock the torque converter in 1st and 2nd gear and circulate transmission fluid in park/reverse/neutral. ATS also machines the TV valve passage and they install their own proprietary TV valve sleeve, and increase the line pressure. You can choose between a towing or a racing valve body. The towing version will deliver smooth, quick, crisp shifts that enhance the drivability and operation of your transmission on the street and attached to a trailer. This is the valve body of choice for a street driven all-purpose truck. The race valve body is their hardcore power build. It is made to sacrifice as little time as possible between shifts, shift hard and fast, and leave nothing behind. It is a very aggressive valve body and a minimum of billet input shaft and flex plate are recommended. IMPORTANT NOTE: This Stage 1 Transmission Package comes standard with a Towing Valve Body. If you prefer a more aggressive shift pattern please leave a note in the comment section of your order to switch to a Racing Valve Body. No additional charge necessary. ATS DIESEL PERFORMANCE

ATS Diesel Performance, based out of Arvada, Colorado is a diesel performance manufacturing company that designs, engineers, and manufactures upgraded transmission components, valve bodies, patented heavy duty torque converters, exhaust and intake manifolds, electronics, turbochargers, dual CP3 injection pumps, and more for Cummins, Powerstroke, and Duramax powered diesel trucks. Operating out of a humongous 110,000 square foot facility in the heart of the Rocky Mountains allows ATS to keep operations in-house, as opposed to overseas sourcing, and then gruelingly test their products at altitude and through grades and descents that would make other companies think twice. From full-time RV users who travel nonstop, to high horsepower competition based vehicles, ATS has the answers.

ATS DIESEL TRANSMISSIONS

Clint Cannon and Ranee Elder founded Automotive Transmission Specialists in 1993. At that time, the company specialized in transmission repair for all types of vehicles. In 1997 the company "Performance Torque Converters" was founded and they started doing torque converter rebuilds in house. Bringing the capability of building torque converters in house gave them more flexibility to service their racing customers. As the popularity of diesel trucks grew and more people became aware of the power upgrades available for their diesels, problems with diesel transmissions emerged.

Clint started research and development into a more robust torque converter to address the transmission issues. It was discovered that a clutch pack design was the answer to providing a robust torque converter. The development of the TripleLok Torque Converter and a company focus on Diesel Performance products resulted in a rename of the company to ATS Diesel Performance.

By having their foot in the door before most, it allowed ATS Diesels transmission upgrades to grow with the demands of diesel trucks, putting them at the forefront of reliability. Fortunately for us, Clint didnt stop with transmissions and began to explore and refine upgraded turbochargers, intake and exhaust manifolds, and anything else to generate additional power with the ever present mindset of maintaining powertrain reliability.
