Many would argue that the 6.7 Powerstroke is the best Ford diesel ever produced (don't worry 7.3 enthusiasts, we've got your back!). That said, probably the biggest issue that has plagued these trucks is the factory VGT (Variable Geometry Turbo). The earliest model 6.7's, specifically 2011-2014 model years, had notorious turbo failures especially on trucks running above factory boost levels, so for 2015, Garrett made some advancements that improved the reliability, and then in 2017, also made further improvements. Now, these trucks are incredibly easy to increase the power on, but the stock turbo, no matter the year, can really only take so much before it just can't keep up.
