Garrett Turbochargers are OEM equipment on many cars and trucks. The also have an aftermarket diesel performance turbo line marketed as POWERMAX Performance Diesel. At Diesel Power Products we carry a variety of Garrett stock turbo parts as well as a few of their more popular performance models. The GTP38R ball bearing turbo that Garrett produces specifically for the 99-03 7.3L Ford Powerstrokes is by far the most popular turbo we sell. It features a 4" intake along with a custom silicone adapter hose, a ported shroud intake housing which helps control surging, a 1.0 A/R exhaust housing to help keep EGT's down, a large 88mm compressor wheel to manage all that airflow and, of course, a ball bearing cartridge. The ball bearing aspect is what really sets it apart. No journal bearing turbo can touch it when it comes to spool-up or reliability. The GTP38R functions best in Powerstrokes making up to around 475HP. You can stretch it a little further by substituting a 1.15 A/R exhaust housing for the 1.0. The 1.15 is non-wastegated and requires a machined adapter, which we also carry. You can even order the turbo in this configuration if you prefer.

If you prefer to stay with the stock turbo we carry a full line of Garrett stock replacements for the Ford Powerstrokes. We can also make a variety of modifications to the stock turbo to make it suit you needs. These mods include: ATS ported shroud, wastegated or non-wastegated 1.0 A/R or 1.15 A/R exhaust housings, wicked wheel, upgraded BD Power wastegates to control creep, non EBV pedestals and more. "I bought one while collecting parts for a project. Couldn’t afford to buy all the parts at once so had to take a bit of time. Finally got everything on the truck and this turbo immediately was dumping oil into the exhaust. Less than 750 miles on it. Turbo is still new and failed. Since I had to gather parts, I purchased the turbo too long ago to get any help and won’t provide me with a contact to deal direct with Garrett. Disappointing. Had to put the factory turbo back on."

Will this increase horsepower?
That turbo has the ability to support more power than the stock turbo with supporting mods. Out of the box you will notice lower EGT's, higher boost and better throttle response. It is an awesome option if replacing your stock turbo.
I have a stock 2001 7.3 power stroke. Is there anything else I would need to purchase to do this stock turbo upgrade?
You are all squared away with this turbo coming with gaskets too. It is up to you if you would like to do an EBV (Exhaust Backpressure Valve) delete. While not required some people like to get it knocked out while down there. -Mark
Why is there such a wide price range on these turbos (600 to 2000)I need this turbo but I'm not rich
Not sure where you might be finding a GTP38R for 600. If so it is more then likely not a GTP38R. But Garrett recently said they are going to enforce their MAP policy. If a turbo is purchased under that it would not be covered under their warranty. -Sands
Why is there a 1000 dollar price range on these turbos
Garrett has always had a MAP(Minimum advertised price) on these turbos. But was really loose on it, we use to sell them for 1500.00. They recently said they are going to start enforcing the MAP policy. So turbos purchased under the MAP price would be subject to a voided warranty. -Sands
