Camshaft Break-In
Proper break-in is critical when installing a new camshaft. Colt Cams recommends applying cam lube to the cam lobes, lifter faces, distributor gears, and oil pump gears, while oiling the bearing journals and lifter barrels. The engine should be rotated by hand to verify clearances and proper timing before startup, then run at approximately 1,800-2,000 RPM for 18-20 minutes. Colt Cams also recommends using an appropriate zinc additive during flat-tappet camshaft break-in.
