Description
G56 Transmissions in Dodges and Rams starting mid-2005 utilize a dual mass flywheel for driver comfort and longevity of drivetrain components. Great in theory, but despite the G56's robust appearance, the dual mass system doesn't hold up in severe duty situations, or higher power production and frankly, are known to be prone to failure. Especially with power numbers constantly growing, and 500-600 horsepower being common for daily driven trucks, to really benefit from the additional power, you need a drivetrain that will hold up under rough conditions. The 1200 Series Street dual plate systems from Clutch Masters are the perfect way to not only get all your power to the ground (up to 1100 pound feet of it), but also maintain some civility in your driving experience. Clutch Masters through their experience in motorsport and clutch production, has paired a solid-hub clutch plate with a sprung-hub plate resulting in more manageable clutch engagement preventing a rough ride or potential damage to critical drivetrain components. With its construction and materials, expect up to 10% lower weight, adding in quieter operation. The 1200 Series Street kit is a larger diameter assembly, which is designed for high torque output applications. Mated to a billet steel flywheel you also allow yourself a modular system, so in the case of required repairs, you can piece together what you need, instead of having another large repair bill. The 1200 Series is a larger diameter assembly, which is designed for high torque output applications. This delivers a higher holding capacity, making it an ideal candidate for heavy towing applications. The 1200 Series Twin Disc features one sprung disc, creating a slightly smoother engagement compared to two rigid discs.

About Clutch Masters
Driving should be an experience, not just a chore. The feeling that the perfect shift resonates in us followed by that pull into the seat just cant be matched. Ram, being the last stand out of the big three featuring manual transmissions in their diesels, started experiencing reliability issues with their dual mass flywheels that were paired with the G56s. That isnt an indicator that its time for an automatic, power numbers have grown immensely, and technology needed to catch up.
Clutch Masters, out of Rialto, California puts in the hard work of research and development to offer high performance clutches specifically to meet the needs of the modern ages continuously growing power levels. With their clutch foot planted in motorsports, they offer a variety of performance clutches supporting huge power builds, while maintaining drivability. Already well known for their 1200 Series twin disc systems for the G56, Clutch Masters also offer a variety of street ready replacements for all your manual equipped Rams. Thanks to their dedication to the ease of drivability, you dont have to be a power lifter to be able to drive to the grocery store with a clutch from the Clutch Masters.

Clutch masters fx1200

"Looks pretty. The clutch pedal is super stiff nothing like the "stock pedal " feel. It's noisy and finally the upgraded hydraulics they claim not to need is bs. I couldn't even get my truck into gear. Swapped in my buddy's upgraded hydraulics and it maraculesly goes in gear as it should. So $2500 later I've got my truck going again."

Fx1200 on 2016 ram 2500

"I've had 6 or 7 twin disk organic clutches in my various personal dodge pickups that I have personally installed, this has been the worst one so far. It is the most beautiful to install, but functions the worst. (Valair has been my favorite, quietest, smoothest, and lasted the longest 130,000 mi. South bend second best at 100,000 each time). First week on each clutch is great, then reality shows it's face. This clutch masters is extremely jumpy, can't take off smooth, and no matter what I do when truck is warmed up it won't go into gear. And I'm not a novice, I know, every twin disk usually needs a helper gear like 4th to slow down the rotating mass of clutch disks and gears before it goes into gear. This one won't disengage when warmed up. I have a new set of upgraded hydraulics and adjust it as much as I feel comfortable, but to no avail. Seems like the floater disk is warped once warmed up. I will have to pull tranny again and inspect. The throw out bearing looks pretty cheap compared to the other 2 brands, and that has been the only thing that has failed on me on each clutch I have had so far. Their customer service was good on the phone, but I will need to send it back to them if I see no defects. For $2000 I expect no defects and not to have to remove it once instead. I bought this because it says there is supposed to be a lighter pedal feel, and handle high torque, who knows. I am not happy with this clutch as of now with it being only one month old. Just my $0. 02."

Q&A

I currently have a southbound dual disk with southbound hydraulics. Will it be an issue using this clutch with aftermarket hydraulics?
The HD Hydraulics are OK to be used, but not 100% required. -Ben
How much weight can this particular Clutch hold up to when towing?
Provided your tires and gears are matched correctly, this will cover the legal limit of what the truck is rated for. -Ben
Dose this come with a. Clutch alignment tool?
Hi Cordell Yes, this will come with an alignment tool. -Ben
My 6.7 Cummins is only pushing about 550hp and 1200 foot lbs, would this clutch be a good option or not? And what is the Breakin period time like?
That clutch would be a really good option for you. It's an organic friction material so typical 1000 miles of normal driving before you start abusing it.-Sands
Does this clutch have a rattle when the clutch is disengaged like a valair does with there dual disc. Can you send me more information on these clutches.
All solid flywheel G56 clutches are going to rattle it is just the nature of the beast. There are tricks out there to quiet them down a little but still going to happen. All the info we have is on our site. SA
