Description
One of the most common fuel related failures we have witnessed on the LLY Duramax is that of the fuel control actuator. Basically, the FCA is the metering device for the CP3 injection pump. If the FCA is not working properly, the ECM cannot communicate to the pump how much fuel it should be delivering. In most cases, people first know there is an issue when they have a hard start or no start issue because the FCA will not allow the pump to properly build pressure to start. However, by the time this occurs, the truck has probably been delivering less than the truly desired amount of fueling for a while already as the FCA is a simple spring design that many times takes a rather slow death, and not an immediate failure. If you're experiencing hard start or no start issues, one easy way to confirm whether or not the FCA is causing the issue is to simply unplug it, thus eliminating any metering. Presuming the truck starts, immediately turn it off as you will have full pressure running to the fuel rail, but at least you have fairly high certainty that the FCA was causing the issue.

About Bosch
Browse Bosch Auto Parts Online by Make, Model, and Year. Bosch has long been a recognizable name in the automotive industry. For those unaware, vehicle manufacturers outsource a sizable amount of the components that go into the production of vehicles, and Bosch is one of the companies that have had long standing relationships with a plethora of manufacturers over the years to build numerous vital components. In the diesel industry, Bosch is most known for producing original equipment injectors and injection pumps for use in Ram trucks powered by a Cummins engine, Chevrolet and GMC's with a Duramax diesel, and Ford SuperDuty's sporting Powerstroke engines. Rest assured that if you purchase Bosch Fuel Injection parts from us that you are only getting Bosch certified new or Bosch certified reman parts with the full factory warranty.

For the diesel market, Bosch gained considerable notoriety with the design and implementation of the common rail fuel injection system found originally on LB7 Duramax’s, then two years later with the 2003 Cummins, and finally available in 2008 on the 6.4L Powerstroke. While this may have been when Bosch was most noticed in this industry, their roots go back much further, building the original equipment HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pumps) for early Powerstrokes, the VE and VP44 injection pumps on Cummins, and injectors throughout nearly all applications. For current era light duty diesels, basically you can nearly conclude that if fuel touches it, it was most likely originally built by Bosch.

And while we continue to mention injection pumps and injectors, its SO much more than that. As previously mentioned, if fuel touches it, you can be pretty sure that Bosch made it, including the Fuel Control Actuators (FCA) also known as an MPROP that are mounted to the injection pump, Rail Pressure Sensors, and even Pressure Relief Valves. They're all made by Bosch! And finally, outside the realm of fueling, we offer Bosch Wiper Blades (yes, they make those too) because, honestly, they make a really nice wiper blade that works.

And you won’t just find Bosch in factory parts. The majority of aftermarket manufacturers or rebuilders do not build components from scratch. Rather, they start off with factory Bosch core pieces, and then remanufacture those for a final product. So whether you're simply in need of a single injector, or needing a full set of matched injectors with injection pump, we've got you covered, and can typically get the parts out almost immediately to get your stranded truck back on the road again.

Product Overview: Bosch Fuel Control Actuator
FCA, MPROP, and Fuel Meter are some of the common terms to describe this part. The BOSCH Fuel Control Actuator is located on the CP3 Injection pump and controls the amount of fuel sent to the fuel rail. Over time they can have stiction issues and begin to fail. If it’s time to replace yours, don’t cheap out, go with the name everyone trusts, even the OEMs, and get a Bosch.

Q&A

Im thinking i have a problem with my fuel pressure regulator on 05 lly. It seems like a idle surge although i dont see my rpms move or bounce at all i can here it in the exhaust? Is that comon my mechanic said it could also be a fuel return isue that was just off the top of his head without any diagnosis. My truck just hit a little over 100k a while back at lile 90k i had a problem with bad fuel from a fuel station i got alot of water i had to replace 3 injectors? Thoughts on this
This is a complex question. One of our experts would love to help you trouble shoot give us a call Mon-Fri 6-6 PST. 888-993-4373 and we can help you out. Thank you.
Would a bad sensor throw the P0088 code (high fuel pressure).
It can, yes. The FCA is just a metering device meaning the pump itself is going to run wide open, but its the FCA, being commanded by the ECM, that dictates the amount of pressure coming out of the pump. Now, usually when an FCA goes bad, it limits too much, meaning the pressure is low. But, if you don't have a proper connection of the harness to the FCA (or don't have it plugged in at all), then it will run wide open. I have seen a few times when one goes bad that it runs too high of pressure, but again, usually its low pressure. I would double check your wiring connection first, then you could try a new FCA to see if it solves your issue.
