Description
One of the most prevalent issues we see causing hard starts, lack of power, and poor fuel economy, is that of a blown or weak pressure relief valve. The pressure relief valve is a simple....you guessed it....relief valve located in your fuel rail designed to limit rail pressure to avoid damage to your injectors. Once it builds enough rail pressure, it will bleed off and return the fuel back to the injection pump to be recycled back into the system. Because this is a simple spring valve, it will lose its memory and begin to start bleeding off prematurely, not allowing the rail to build adequate pressure, in turn meaning the injectors are not getting adequate pressure. Many will take the option to simply block off the relief valve, which definitely works, but it does mean that you are removing a built-in safe guard from the factory. If you're like many and would prefer to reinstall a fresh relief valve, check out this genuine Bosch unit for years of trouble free service. About Bosch
Browse Bosch Auto Parts Online by Make, Model, and Year. Bosch has long been a recognizable name in the automotive industry. For those unaware, vehicle manufacturers outsource a sizable amount of the components that go into the production of vehicles, and Bosch is one of the companies that have had long standing relationships with a plethora of manufacturers over the years to build numerous vital components. In the diesel industry, Bosch is most known for producing original equipment injectors and injection pumps for use in Ram trucks powered by a Cummins engine, Chevrolet and GMC's with a Duramax diesel, and Ford SuperDuty's sporting Powerstroke engines. Rest assured that if you purchase Bosch Fuel Injection parts from us that you are only getting Bosch certified new or Bosch certified reman parts with the full factory warranty.

For the diesel market, Bosch gained considerable notoriety with the design and implementation of the common rail fuel injection system found originally on LB7 Duramax’s, then two years later with the 2003 Cummins, and finally available in 2008 on the 6.4L Powerstroke. While this may have been when Bosch was most noticed in this industry, their roots go back much further, building the original equipment HPOP (High Pressure Oil Pumps) for early Powerstrokes, the VE and VP44 injection pumps on Cummins, and injectors throughout nearly all applications. For current era light duty diesels, basically you can nearly conclude that if fuel touches it, it was most likely originally built by Bosch.

And while we continue to mention injection pumps and injectors, its SO much more than that. As previously mentioned, if fuel touches it, you can be pretty sure that Bosch made it, including the Fuel Control Actuators (FCA) also known as an MPROP that are mounted to the injection pump, Rail Pressure Sensors, and even Pressure Relief Valves. They're all made by Bosch! And finally, outside the realm of fueling, we offer Bosch Wiper Blades (yes, they make those too) because, honestly, they make a really nice wiper blade that works.

And you won’t just find Bosch in factory parts. The majority of aftermarket manufacturers or rebuilders do not build components from scratch. Rather, they start off with factory Bosch core pieces, and then remanufacture those for a final product. So whether you're simply in need of a single injector, or needing a full set of matched injectors with injection pump, we've got you covered, and can typically get the parts out almost immediately to get your stranded truck back on the road again.

Product Overview: Bosch Pressure Relief Valve 03-07 Ram 5.9L Cummins
The 5.9L Cummins Common Rail Injection system is quite robust, however, items will end up wearing out. If you are noticing a code for low fuel rail pressure, especially at high RPMs, the Pressure Relief Valve may be the culprit. Designed to allow fuel pressure to bleed off around 24,000PSI, a worn valve may end up allowing pressure to bleed much lower, causing a lack of power. If it’s time to replace yours, don’t cheap out, go with the name everyone trusts, even the OEMs, and get a BOSCH.

Diesel Talk | Common Rail Pressure Relief Valves and Plugs
A Fuel Rail Pressure Relief Valve is a fairly simple part that can cause a host of problems on common rail diesel engines. If it’s time to replace you have two options; a stock replacement which will bleed off pressure at a predetermined amount, or a “race plug” which doesn’t. Typically, those running performance parts like a tuner, lift pump, larger injectors, etc. will opt for the plug. This means you: 2003 – Current 5.9L / 6.7L Cummins, 2001- Current 6.6L Duramax’s, and 2011 – Current 6.7L Powerstroke’s! If you have any questions let us know!

"Torn between one and five stars. The product itself is excellent—it’s Bosch, and you can’t go wrong there. Shipping was faster than expected, especially since I paid for one-day delivery, (received overnight) so that was appreciated. That said, when I called with a concern, the representative seemed a bit lackadaisical and not as engaged as I would have expected. Also, while I understand Bosch sometimes ships these sensors loose in their own packaging, I expected additional protection from Diesel Power Products. Other sensors I’ve ordered from them were properly cushioned, but this one was allowed to move around in the box during shipping. Given how delicate these sensors are, I was a bit disappointed with the lack of extra packaging."

"If you’re having ANY fuel issues with your 3rd gen dodge this FCA is the genuine Bosch part. Do yourself a favor and get the FPRV also. Parts shipped quickly and were packaged appropriately. Fixed my issues with a 30 min install"

"Great, thanks will order more parts in the future"

Relief valve

"Didn’t come with any sealant on the thread. @ 26-28,000 psi no thread sealant would work I guess but no new seals or anything. To banjo bolt seal or lower seal. Would think a 100$ part would come with a . 03 c seal"

Q&A

Hi I’m considering replacing a few components on my 2004 Dodge Ram 2500 5.9L HO - I have a high fuel pressure warning on , the owner previous to me had installed a fass fuel pump and filter and said the light came on after the install. Not sure on any other details after that. I do still have the light on and am noticing some power issues , and the truck also wouldn’t start - at some point and self resolved . My thought was maybe a blockage in the fuel return line but now I realize it may be a fuel control actuator or fuel pressure release valve that is faulty ? Any ideas where to start? Should I replace those two components and see if the problems is fixed ? I’m working on getting over to a friends to test the fuel rail pressure - but it feels like the warning light is correct Thanks.
I would check a few things. One, how much pressure the FASS is putting out. 2. Rail pressure of course. Usually if you have a faulty pressure relief valve you will see low fuel rail pressure codes. FCA can certainly cause that. If you are able to get a scan tool on there to measure rail pressure. See what it is with the FCA plugged in and then unplug it and see if it changes. If it does not change it is either bad, or the wiring going to it is damaged.
what is the warranty on this product
Bosch components will have a 1 year manufacturers warranty on them from Bosch. -Sands
What is the torque on pressure valve and banjo fitting
52 ft lb on the valve, 18 ft lb on the banjo bolt
Will this fit in a 2004 Freightliner MT55 with a 5.9 Cummins ISB motor? It appears to be similar to the one I removed. Thanks
There is good chance it is the same part. i would get a part number from your dealer to see if it will work. We can compare it to the part number for this one.
