POWERSTOP MEANS TRUE STOPPING POWER

PowerStop co-founder Arvin Scott has spent his entire life around cars. As a kid, Arvin would spend his summers helping run the cash register at his grandfather’s auto parts store in the outskirts of Chicago. Early on, Arvin realized that most vehicles suffer from weak brakes. With PowerStop, he set out to make the brakes that should’ve come on every new car. Today, PowerStop still aims to provide top quality performance brakes for every vehicle on the road.

With corporate responsibility and dedication always in question, PowerStop is committed to the environment, employee safety and regulation compliance. Between running 100% copper free brake pads well ahead of California and Washington states timelines, they also ensure a like factory fit for all components and perform the same testing as manufactures making new vehicles.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

We get a lot of calls and e-mails each day with various product, vehicle, and installation questions. Some are completely off the wall and can even catch us off guard at times, but many others are fairly routine, so we thought we'd post some of the most popular questions that can hopefully be a good resource for you.

Q: How can I tell if my brake rotors are bad?
A: This is a great question! While there are audible indications that the pads are wearing out, the rotors are more physical in their feedback. You'll feel a shuddering in steering wheel when braking, or in your back if its coming from the rear brakes. You'll also likely see grooving, blue spotting on the rotor surface, or even deep scoring. Also, for those looking to ensure they get every millimeter of material used, you can verify the width of the rotor with a micrometer.

Q: What is the break in procedure for my brakes?
A: We are glad you asked, as this is a critical step of installation to help ensure you get the best possible performance out of your brakes. Upon completion of installation, you'll want to follow these steps. It should be noted, you'll need to find a non-busy area where it is SAFE and LEGAL to perform this procedure, as it requires rapid and repeated stops. Now, step 1: perform 5 moderate to aggressive stops from 40 mph to 10 mph in rapid succession. Step 2: perform 5 moderate stops from 35 mph to 5 mph in rapid succession. Step 3: this is the easy one, just drive around at a nice moderate pace for about 5 minutes. Let everything cool down naturally, and you're done. Look at you go! Well, look at you stop actually.
