This exhaust brake is to be mounted directly to the factory turbo, or with an aftermarket turbo with the same outlet flange as the factory. Diesel engines, unlike gasoline engines, don't slow down simply by taking your foot off the accelerator; they rely on service and supplemental brakes. In order to have consistent and effective braking over the entire RPM range, it is important (and necessary) to maintain constant backpressure.
