Your 3.0L Powerstroke has a fuel system basically consisting of a CP4.2 injection pump, a low pressure pump in the fuel tank, and a filter. If this type of system sounds familiar, that's because its essentially the same principle that all light duty diesel pickups of this era run. The reasoning everyone uses this design is because the system can be nearly completely electronically controlled via the ECM in an effort to maximize power while minimizing emissions. Overall, this type of fueling is light years ahead of older, previous designs, but still has drawbacks in long term durability and in horsepower building potential.
