Beginning in 2005, Ram made a change that moved the factory lift pump from the side of the engine block into the fuel tank to aid in fuel pump longevity. While this change was a move in the right direction, the factory pump is still underrated, especially for trucks that have been slightly modified. This frame-mounted lift pump will deliver 100 or 150 gallons per hour (GPH) of fuel, enough to support a stock truck all the way to over 500 rear-wheel horsepower!
AirDog 4G is designed to operate at flows and pressures beyond the maximum requirements of the engine. It receives fuel under vacuum from the fuel tank, which contains entrained air, particulate contaminants, and unknown quantities of water. Diesel fuel passes through the water separator, which removes the large particulate contaminants that could damage or jam the gear rotor fuel pump. The fuel, now with only entrained air/vapor and tiny particulates remaining, goes into the gerotor pump, which then leads to the fuel filter. As the fuel passes through the filter media, the remaining particulate contaminants are caught, and the entrained air/vapor are also separated. Through the positive fuel air separation features of the patented AirDog 4G the separated air/vapor is discharged from the filter and back to the fuel tank through the Primary Air/Vapor Discharge Port.
The fuel passing through the filter media is now scrubbed free of contaminants and power-robbing air/vapor. At pressures and flows able to meet the engine's needs, it exits the fuel filter through two passageways. First, the fuel for the engine passes into the fuel pickup tube and off to the engine. Then, the excess fuel not needed by the engine is recycled internally through the pressure regulator back to the water separator.
Gallons Per Hour Option:
- 100 GPH / 150 GPH- The GPH that is best for you is determined by the Horsepower rating of your truck. You can consult your owner's manual or manufacturer's website if you haven't done any aftermarket alterations. Otherwise, you can consult guides or do a dyno test for an accurate and current measurement.
- Still unsure of whether you need the Airdog 100 or the Airdog 150?- Put it this way...if your truck is stock, or moderately stock (up to 500hp) you want the 100. If you've added 100hp injectors or larger(500hp+), you will want the 150. If you have any questions, give us a call.
