Want to know the number one way to extend the life of your drivetrain? Keep your oil temperature down! Sure, its no secret that as oil heats above 250 degrees, it starts to physically break down losing its ability to properly lubricate, but how do you keep those temperatures in check? The first thing is to use a high quality oil, and secondly, allow a larger volume of oil within the system to displace the heat, plus add cooling fins to let ambient air do the work for you. Both of the latter is accomplished by upgrading your differential cover(s), engine pan, and transmission pan with an aftermarket unit, such as those manufactured by PPE Power. Most factory covers and pans are built from stamped steel, and some engine pans nowadays are even built from plastic (yikes!), which does not tolerate heat very well. PPE builds their covers and pans from A356-T6 aluminum alloy that features external fins, also called heat sinks, that are better able to dissipate the oil's heat, effectively cooling down your drivetrain. And one other feature that most people don't realize is that due to the construction, these covers and pans are actually stronger than their factory counterparts, creating a girdle of sorts to reinforce the housing in which they are bolted to. And especially in regards to the differential covers, they look pretty cool peeking out from under the truck, and with most of PPE's covers and pans available in several finish options, you'll be able to find one to match the style of your truck.
