In many industries, such as mining and petroleum, it is a requirement to have a device installed on the vehicle to avoid a runaway engine. But you may be asking how does an engine runaway? Simplistically, in these kinds of environments, hydrocarbons are commonly present in the air and as the engine is running, this fuel-dense air can be ingested into the engine creating combustion when its not being commanded by the driver or the vehicle's ECM, and will continually raise RPM until a catastrophic failure occurs. BD solves this issue with their line of Positive Air Shutdowns that will shut off the air supply into the engine, effectively causing it to shut down the engine before it damages the engine. BD offers two basic types of their "PAS," one of which is installed inline and features an aftermarket butterfly valve in a cast housing. The second option utilizes the factory throttle control valve found on most modern-era diesels and commands it to close. Keep your engine safe and install a BD Positive Air Shutdown.
