Are you looking to upgrade your diesel with an Edge programmer? Great, you've come to the right place! Edge has been providing the diesel industry with quality tuners/programmers for quite some time, leading the charge in a digital monitor revolution. Edge knows the importance of keeping a watchful eye on all aspects of your truck; one small out of sync component might lead to catastrophic failure. And analog gauges can't keep up, even with a barrage of them mounted across your entire cab, they still lack the intuitive ease of use that EDGE builds into all their products.

Edge introduced their Juice with Attitude CTS and CS Performance Chips, Evolution CTS and CS Programmers, as well as their Insight CTS and CS Monitors receiving an overwhelming out pour of support, making the CTS and CS a couple of the most valued digital monitors in the game. Keeping up with the times, the CTS and CS have been replaced with faster, sleeker, and better working versions; the CTS2 and CS2, followed by the CTS3 and CS3. Both Edge Programmers feature the same intuitive nature of their predecessors while also offering users faster processing times, more ability to monitor engine vitals and overall control.

And while they are known best for their digital monitors, they are highly competent with diesel and gas tuning. Their Juice with Attitude and Evolution products offer your truck or off-roader big gains in performance as well as the ability to monitor said performance gains.

We get a lot of calls and e-mails each day with various product, vehicle, and installation questions. Some are completely off the wall and can even catch us off guard at times, but many others are fairly routine, so we thought we'd post some of the most popular questions that can hopefully be a good resource for you.

Q: Whats the difference between an Evolution, Juice with Attitude, and an Insight?
A: For the most part, all three of these look very similar, in fact, if you're only looking at the monitor, they're exactly the same, so what makes them different? First and foremost, the Insight does not add any performance or modify the ECM whatsoever, its merely a monitor to keep track of your exhaust gas temperatures (EGT), boost, transmission temperature, and so forth. The Evolution, however, would be considered a "programmer" in that it stores files that upload into your Engine Control Module (ECM) in order to increase the performance of the vehicle, plus has an integrated monitor to keep tabs on all of your powertrain. Finally, the Juice with Attitude would be coined a "chip" in that its a box containing a microchip that plugs in-line with existing sensors under the hood of the truck, such as inline with the Rail Pressure Sensor, Data Link Connector, MAP Sensor, and so forth. In short, it intercepts the signals as it passes through to basically trick the computer to deliver added power. In terms of the main difference between an Evolution and a Juice with Attitude, each truck is effected differently in terms of power potential. As a general rule of thumb, the older the truck, the less power you can gain with a programmer, but can gain plenty with a chip. Conversely, newer trucks with "smarter" ECM's can gain the same, if not more, via a programmer, plus they're much simpler to install. Finally, while most trucks can't change power levels on-the-fly with a programmer, they can with a chip. For specifics on your truck, check out the exact product page, however, for details on power levels, shift-on-the-fly capabilities, and more.

Q: Whats the difference between the EZ and a Comp Box for my 1998.5-2002 24 Valve Cummins?
A: While very similar in installation, there is one big difference between these two performance chips for the 2nd Gen Cummins. Both of these are installed to the MAP Sensor and Data Link Connector, which is capable of un-tapping around 65 additional horsepower. On the VP44 equipped trucks, to get into the power, you have to "tap" the injection pump, which adds a single control wire from the chip that taps into a wire, or the circuit board of the pump, giving the chip control throughout the pump. This is really what separates the EZ and Comp being that it also taps into this wire. From there, the EZ has three adjustable power levels, whereas the Comp is a "5x5" meaning it has five main power levels, and within each of those, another five.

Q: Whats the difference between the CTS and CS monitors?
A: CTS stands for Color Touch Screen and CS stands for Color Screen, meaning the latter is controlled by buttons where the CTS is controlled by touching the screen. The touch screen is basically double the size of the non-touch screen and the more popular option. However, if you prefer a smaller, more discrete interface, the CS is a great option.

Q: Can I load custom tunes on my Edge like EFILive?
A: No, Edge has done an exceptional job of creating and perfecting their out of the box tuning. That said, for those that necessitate custom tuning because they have highly modified their engine, pairing an Insight monitor with EFILive or other custom tuning platforms is a very popular option.

Q: What parameters should I be concerned with monitoring?
A: That depends on the truck, however, EGT's (Exhaust Gas Temperature) is the most important. For those with an automatic transmission, monitoring the temperature here is also very important to prevent a failure. Boost is one of those parameters that is fun to watch and shows where your powerband is at, but until you get into the bigger power levels, not something you're monitoring to prevent an issue necessarily. Fuel pressure and rail pressure are also both very good indicators if you need a better lift pump or higher output injection pump. From there, it all depends on your needs and your particular truck.
