While the first thing that comes to most people's minds when they think of nitrous oxide (NOS) are race cars or race engines, that's not necessarily always the case. Nitrous oxide can also be used to easily provide mild to moderate gains, even just 50 horsepower. For instance, you're running a turbo configuration that just doesn't quite spool as well as you'd like off the bottom, with a small shot of nitrous that is calibrated to inject at certain intervals, it can drastically increase turbo spool. Or maybe you just need that extra shot to beat your buddy up the pass, again, easily accomplished. But yes, you can also use it to deliver substantial gains in power for drastic reductions in your time slips or longer pulls with the sled, or just massive numbers on a dyno.
