Due to the emissions systems that are factory installed on the 6.7L Powerstrokes, no one makes a traditional in-line type of exhaust brake for these trucks, because it would create complications with the EGR system. However, because of the design of the factory turbos, several manufacturers offer what is known as a variable vane exhaust brake, which is an electronic device that takes control of the variables vanes within the turbo to create a similar back pressure as a traditional butterfly valve exhaust brake. The advantage to this type of system is that they are substantially less expensive and easier to install compared to an in-line. And for those familiar with the factory exhaust brakes on 6.7L Cummins, these types of devices will essentially turn your turbo to act in a similar fashion to this.
