Description

In 2008, with the release of the much anticipated 6.4L Powerstroke, Ford also unveiled their new 5 speed Torque Shift transmission, the 5R110W. Numerous advancements came with this new transmission, most notably its transmission control module that has near complete control over the functions of the mechanical aspects of the transmission. What this means is that line pressure and shift points can be altered through simple tuning, as well as the transmissions capability of adaptive learning to alter various parameters depending on driving conditions. And while the 5R110W's capabilities as a stout transmission have proven itself, the shear capability of producing high levels of horsepower out of the 6.4L with ease have shown the limits of this transmission, as well.
