For those of us that work our trucks, its absolutely beneficial to upgrade the factory differential covers and transmission pan. First and foremost, the factory covers/pan feature a stamped steel construction that does not lend itself to proper heat dissipation or overall integrity. The majority of aftermarket covers and pans are built from machined aluminum with integrating cooling fins that literally act as heat sinks. Further, each also has a higher capacity which means that any heat that does build up will have more oil to physically dissipate into, keeping your running gear lasting the life of the vehicle.
With the 2019+ models, you have multiple variations of transmissions and rear axle combinations that will determine which cover or pan is right for you. With the release of the 2019 models, the manual transmission was abandoned, but still three iterations of automatic transmissions were available. The majority of truck owners will have the 68RFE six speed, initially released in 2007.5 model years and can be found on the standard output pickup models. For those with a cab and chassis applications, you'll have the Aisin AS69RC six speed. Not sure what a cab and chassis is? Simple, these are models that came from the factory without a bed as they are intended for upfit with a flat bed or service body. Finally, the High Output Cummins engines will feature an Aisin, as well, but instead have the ASC69RC, which is slightly different than those used in the chassis cabs.
In regards to the differential covers and axles, in general. Ram continues to use AAAM at both ends, featuring a 9.25" up front and an 11.8" out back....except if you have the Max Tow Package. For these heavy hauling 3500's, you'll have a big ol' 12" ring gear with 4.5" axle tubes out back.
Overall, if you would like any assistance determining which transmission or axles you have to best determine which pan or cover is right for you and your truck please don't hesitate to give us a call and we would be more than happy to help.
