Fuel injectors were tough in the 1990s, but nothing is tough enough to run without being fed fuel. Keeping your fuel system fed with clean fuel is a priority and will keep you on the road longer. The 6.5L had notable fuel-related issues that owners should be aware of. A common problem was with the mechanical DB2 injection pump. It can develop leaks and wear over time inevitably leading to inadequate fuel delivery, hard starting, and poor performance. This is where a FASS or AirDog fuel lift pump system would benefit.
Another problem area was when the switch was made to electronics. The 6.5L equipped with the electronic lift pump also had its fair share of problems. This solenoid would fail and its job was to regulate fuel pressure. When this happens, trucks will lose power during acceleration, have difficulty starting, or even stalling out.
With a worthy fuel delivery system like an AirDog or FASS, you could then upgrade to a Dipaco PMD and pair it with one of the many selections of extension harnesses. Extending this harness can allow you to relocate the PMD away from the heat and ensure a long life for your pump mounted driver.
For those of you who have already hit the necessary upgrades to keep this pump alive (mechanical specifically in this case) but the pump has already given up, we have you covered with a replacement Dipaco DS fuel injection pump that comes with a new PMD, too.
