Do you know the feeling when your truck’s running strong, but those little signs of wear start showing up? Even the tough 1988-1994 7.3L IDI trucks need some love after years of use. Ford equipped them with durable Dana and Sterling axles, but heavy-duty work, off-roading, and time can take their toll.
The Dana 50 TTB axles were solid for light-duty use, but alignment issues and U-joint wear were common under heavy stress. The Dana 60 front axle in the F-350s was much stronger, though ring and pinion gear wear could still happen after years of hard use. The Sterling 10.25 rear axle was also built to handle heavy loads, but over time, leaks and worn bearings became typical issues, especially on high-mileage trucks.
If your truck is showing signs of wear, it might be time for some upgrades to fix these problems and improve performance. The Mag-Hytec rear differential cover increases fluid capacity and adds cooling fins to help your diff run cooler, perfect for towing or heavy-duty use.
If your factory locking hubs disengage under heavy torque, upgrading to Dynatrac DynaLoc hubs will provide three times the strength and a more rugged design for off-roading. For F-350s with a Dana 60, the Yukon Dana 60 Chromoly 35-spline front axle kit offers a stronger solution, built with high-tensile strength 4340 Chromoly to reinforce your front end.
And if your Sterling 10.25 is wearing down, consider upgrading to Yukon Gear & Axle’s 10.25" ring and pinion for better reliability. With these upgrades, you can keep your 7.3L IDI running smoothly, handling the toughest jobs, and performing better on the road or off.
