The 6.9L engine featured a stout mechanical fuel injection system, but due to lack of lubricity, they commonly would fail. That isn’t a model-specific issue, that is something that is still an issue today even with modern diesel engines. However, aftermarket support is here to help retain that reliability.
For starters, filling up with Hot Shot’s Secret’s EDT (Everyday Diesel Treatment) will not only add lubricity to every tank, but it will also aid in performance by increasing cetane and cleaning the fuel system completely. Because of the inevitable miles, these trucks have earned over the years, or if it's too late and you’ve lost one, we also offer stock replacement, no core required injectors.
If your system is good but your factory filtration system isn’t keeping up with your demands, you have the option to add a fuel filter/water separator combo in Glacier Diesel Power’s fuel filtration system that features a 10-micron fuel/water separator and a 3-micron fuel filter making sure your 6.9L IDI is fed only clean fuel at all times.
