As many owners of 2004.5-07 Dodge Ram 5.9L Cummins have come to find out, the factory exhaust manifold has a severe flaw...it cracks! The problem lies in the tendency of the exhaust manifold to overheat, causing it to expand, and then contract when it cools. All of this expanding and contracting takes its toll on the cast manifold, causing it to create heat-induced cracks.
Fortunately, we have numerous solution for this! We carry 2-piece ported exhaust manifold from BD, ATS, Industrial Injection, and PDI. These manifolds are superior because of their 2-piece design, allowing them to expand and contract, but "slip" along the joints, thus not allowing it to crack. We also carry one piece stainless steel manifolds, that simply due to their material, will not be subject to damage caused by heat cycles.
Further, the factory manifold on 2003 to current model year Cummins is not square on the head. Essentially, the manifold is centered on ports four and five, towards the back, thus you are not receiving equal cylinder distribution. For those looking to alleviate this issue, we offer manifolds originally intended for use on 1998.5-2002 Cummins that will bolt directly to the head. In doing so, you will be required to replace or modify your air intake, downpipe, and turbo oil feed lines due to the new placement of the turbo. Now, is this offset design a huge dilemma for most? No, on even moderately built engines it is not crucial, but for those that are truly "building" their engine for superior performance, it is a great upgrade when looking at turbo and manifold options.
As always, if you have any questions about fitment or which manifold is right for you do not hesitate to give us a call and we would be happy to assist.
