2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee: Now with a Diesel Option, Good News for Detroit

JeepTags , ,

Chrysler Group announced plans to offer a diesel option on their Jeep Grand Cherokee. In addition to this comes the news that they will add 1,100 jobs at their Jefferson North Assembly Plant located in Detroit. This is good news for both off-roaders that have been awaiting diesel options across Jeep’s entire lineup and for the city of Detroit which will benefit from the jobs being created.

Chrysler’s CEO, Sergio Marchionne said “We believe that investing in Detroit is not only the right thing to do, but it is a smart thing to do as we work to write the next chapter in our shared history”.

According to MotorTrend, Grand Cherokee’s diesel engine is expected to be the same 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6 that is currently being offered in Europe. The engine produces 237 hp and 460 lb-ft of torque. The Jeep Grand Cherokee diesel engine will be much more fuel efficient. In Europe, the diesel Grand Cherokee is rated at the equivalent of 28 miles per gallon.
